Research and Development of Functional Materials
CISRI carries out multi-scale design of materials, development of soft magnetic and fast quenching technology, development of permanent magnetic materials and devices, magnetic field analysis and magnetic circuit design, and development and manufacturing of special alloys, thermal bimetals, magnetic shielding materials, hydrogen storage and energy storage materials, magnetostrictive materials and film materials. It provides various functional materials for Beidou satellites, Shenzhou spacecrafts, Chang’e lunar exploration project and the like.

Hot Isostatic Pressing Service and Equipment
CISRI has overcome and broken through the technical problems such as ultra-high pressure sealing technology of large size hot isostatic pressing equipment, uniformity of temperature in furnace , uniform and rapid cooling, and achieving ultra-high vacuum degree under ultra-high pressure system. It has formed a complete set of technology for fully independent research, development, design and manufacture of large size hot isostatic pressing equipment. At present, it has set up hot isostatic pressing technology service centers supporting a series of hot isostatic pressing equipment in Zhuozhou, Zhenjiang, Qingdao, Weinan, Guangzhou, Tianjin and other regions to comprehensively guarantee the quality of important industrial products in various fields in China.

3D Printing
CISRI has 22 large and medium-sized printing equipment at present. It is expected to build a capacity of 43 printing equipment in 2022. Equipped with complete capabilities including heat treatment, wire cutting, polishing, surface treatment and performance testing, CISRI has undertaken a number of scientific research projects for additive manufacturing including national and provincial and ministerial level key R&D plans, international cooperation projects, civil aircraft projects, science, technology and industry support for national defense, as well as research and development of additive manufacturing of parts and components of national defense equipment such as large aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, advanced aero-engines with high thrust-weight ratio, and advanced aerospace engines.

Low Carbon Ironmaking
With the increasing shortage of coking coal resources, developing a new process of non-blast furnace ironmaking with coal instead of coke is an important means to reduce costs and increase efficiency in ironmaking. The one-step smelting reduction researched and developed by CISRI adopts the direct smelting of fine ores and pulverized coals, which saves the pre-iron agglomeration and coking processes, and the total capital construction cost is significantly lower than that of the blast furnace ironmaking method. One of the new generation low-carbon green smelting technologies researched and developed by CISRI is to achieve energy conservation, emission reduction and consumption reduction by injecting coke oven gas.
